The brutality that goes along with the tactics used in globalization by corporations in development projects is nothing new. The governments response to the use of blatant aggression and violations of rights by police and military forces serving the corporate interests is one of cover and support from a standpoint of total deception. The disregard for any semblance of integrity or truth in reporting their activities against protestors by police at Standing Rock would prove that to anybody.
The corporate powers and government powers are now, one and the same. They don't play by the same rules. The use of police in brutalizing Americans, in a illegal and unethical manner, is criminal. It's openly fascist in examination of the real events. But the authorities in response to the brutality and illegal use of police in fascist tactics, is to lie about what is actually happening. Or to completely ignore the rights of people being affected by corporate activities. Especially in the circumstance of the exploitation of natural resources or in many cases cultural and indigenous rights. (In other like examples of environmental crimes by corporations that affected citizens of a nation, you could look to places like Nigeria.) A lot of the environmental damage that occurs in development of pipeline or related projects is left unchecked. The river in Niger has not been cleaned up yet. The extensive damages in Alberta are permanent. Toxins are being left to enter the environment unchecked. Resistance to the practice is met with brutality.
The guarantees by governments to protect environments from damage has to be made clear and enforced. It is not a political issue. It's a survival issue.
