The real problem with the server, isn't one server that might have contained classified information. The real problem is the 900 million dollars worth of servers that the government had installed into the internet HUB in 1994.
Those servers contain a lot of sensitive information from offices and homes and businesses. The problem with those servers is that the government doesn't know where they are. The servers might be hacked into. They are outdated and need to be replaced.
A broken HUB means unsecured data streams. Unsecured files floating around in the internet. Those files and that unsecured data can be fished into a device like an open server. Once the information is in the device it can be decoded. Files can be hacked into. Classified information can be studied by the wrong people.
The story behind the servers and how they were lost is a horror story. To begin with, in 1994, the 900 million dollars used to purchase the servers was never paid back by the government after the project was completed.
The project contractors were two scientists who were put in charge of the installation of the servers. They were killed right after the project was completed. The agents who killed them were also killed. The location of the servers remained secret.
Did the people who sold AT&T inform the buyers that the HUB was installed in association with the company?
Is there a plan to replace the servers?
And how much classified information has been, or was leaked through those servers?
